Maxima is a free version of the famous computer algebra system Macsyma. It is available for various platforms and can be downloaded from http://maxima.sourceforge.net/download.shtml. The user interface of Maxima is less polished than that of Macsyma, but the mathematical power of Maxima is very impressive.
This tutorial covers the use of Maxima. Apart from own material, it uses - in modified form - material from the homepage http://www.ma.utexas.edu/users/wfs of William F. Schelter (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Schelter), the late maintainer of Maxima.
For now, the tutorial contains only very few examples, but I plan to enhance it as soon as possible.
